Dave Merrills

Dave Merrills was born in Yorkshire and trained at Rotherham and Sheffield Colleges of Art, he taught in Essex, Staffordshire and Clwyd before taking up painting full time in 1987. He exhibits regularly in North Wales with one-man shows in Denbigh, National Museum of Wales, Mold and Rhyl. Group shows include invited artists at the Royal Cambrian in 2003 and others in Wrexham and Denbigh.

Though his preoccupation has always been the effects of light on surfaces and his subject matter the Aberwheeler Valley and the Vale of Clwyd where he lives, he has added close ups, interiors and figurative images to his recent work. He lives in an old farmhouse near Denbigh, where he also has his studio.

Dave has staged two successful solo exhibitions at manorhaus and has a number of large scale oil paintings on permanent display within Oriel 2.
